Accounting

If you ask anyone who has spent their life balancing numbers and decoding ledgers, they’ll confess: it’s about more than debits and credits. For me, accounting has always been a puzzle—the kind that demands not only sharp technical skill, but also genuine curiosity and a knack for helping others breathe easier when finances get tricky. My journey began in grade school, when math homework became my playground and number games my daily hobby. Years later, after earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting and financial management, I entered the real world with a big dream: to make accounting accessible, even entertaining, for fellow entrepreneurs and nonprofits navigating the intimidating world of real estate finance.

The Heart Behind Real Estate Accounting

When I launched my own accounting and tax firm in August of 2025—while working full-time and preparing for the CPA exam—I never expected it to become my calling. I just wanted a “feel good” side gig that made a difference. As Éclat Enterprises, LLC grew, I discovered my true passion: providing clear, practical financial guidance to those who build, buy, or invest in real estate. After all, the property market is complicated, and the stakes are high for investors, agents, and entrepreneurs who must untangle everything from property tax deductions and depreciation to mortgage interest and fluctuating cash flow.

What Makes Real Estate Accounting Unique?

Unlike traditional bookkeeping, real estate accounting involves layers of nuance—think capital gains, 1031 exchanges, and keeping track of operating expenses versus capital improvements. Timelines are often dictated by closing tables, contract negotiations, and tax deadlines. The numbers do more than tally profit and loss; they reflect strategic decisions that can shape someone’s financial legacy. That’s why my accounting approach is part educator, part strategist—with a tiny dose of standup comedian for good measure. If you can’t laugh at the fine print of a Form 4797, you might as well cry!

Empowering Clients in Plain English

If you’ve ever walked into a meeting with an accountant and felt lost in a sea of jargon, you’re not alone. My commitment—to entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and real estate professionals across the country—has always been making accounting approachable. I translate technical rules into understandable language, spotlighting what truly matters for your goals, whether you’re closing your first property transaction or managing a portfolio of rental units.

Supporting Entrepreneurs and Nonprofits

From my years volunteering with SCORE, helping startups and small businesses navigate those first tricky years, I’ve seen firsthand how proper accounting can make or break a dream. Accurate financial reporting, timely tax planning, and compliance guidance aren’t just line items—they enable clients to make smarter investments, grow their operations, and avoid costly pitfalls. Whether mentoring a young entrepreneur in Southeast Wisconsin or preparing a complicated return for a nonprofit, the same philosophy applies: your numbers should work for you, not against you.

Making Room for Life, Laughter, and Ledgers

Despite the spreadsheets and checklists, the most rewarding part of this profession isn’t tax season victories or even a perfectly balanced account. It’s the relationships—helping clients grow, watching new investments take root, supporting fellow business owners through unpredictability and, occasionally, sharing a good laugh over a coffee while discussing Section 179 deductions. At its heart, my work is about building trust and giving people confidence in their finances, freeing them to focus on what they do best.

Final Thoughts: A Human Approach to Real Estate Accounting

Every property closing, every expense report, every new entrepreneurial venture tells a story. If real estate accounting has taught me anything, it’s that meaningful impact happens when advice is honest, guidance is personal, and the process includes a little levity. Numbers are the backbone of the business—but people are always at the center.
